A Lethargic Weekend

December 11th, 2006 by flakeboy

This weekend I sat around and… well, basically just sat around.

I had some work to do for the church 40th Anniversary Book (which consists of just re-laying out articles in Chinese and English). That took quite a bit of time and totally cramped my back since my desk is a small footstool and my floor. In addition to working on that book for a good 8+ hours over the weekend, I also managed to squeeze in 8 hours of Zelda and skip out on my gym routine. To top it off, I ate a whole pint of peppermint ice cream from Baskin Robbins. Yes, I am going to be a fat piggy this Christmas. Oink. Oink. :)

Wiipped on Wii

November 28th, 2006 by flakeboy

I don’t have much to report at the moment… I have been spending al my spare time since Monday after work playing Twilight Princess and let me say this, the game is exceptional. If you’ve ever liked any Zelda title in the past, you’ll definitely enjoy this one though I must admit that it is initially a slow start before the action begins and it took me a while to get used to the Wii controls (I’mm still adapting). That is all… If I disappear, I’m not dead, I’m just attached to my TV and Nintendo. Send me a message over Wii-mail. Maybe I’ll see that… and for thos eof you out there with Wii’s of your own, email me your Wii console code and lets swap Miis. :)

Wii-less until Saturday

November 21st, 2006 by flakeboy

So, I failed to procure a Wii in Boston. A real shame for sure. While I knew there wouldn’t be as much of a mark up on the Wii as there is for the PS3, the mark-up s actually still substantial enough that I wish I had been able to get more than 1 unit for myself. Sigh. Alas.

So we went to 2 Targets. The first Target was a smaller local one and there was a modest line in front. Having researched online, there should have been 60 Wiis at this Target. Turns out there were 69 and we were, well, #71. Part of me wonders if other people left as the last person in line told late arrivers he was 69 of 69 or if we were indeed just SOL and got there 5-10 minutes too late. Part of me wavered. I wanted to stay just in case, but there was another Target a little further away that supposedly had 120 units. So I faulted and off we went.

The next Target, well, had an army of fan-boys lined up–some in blankets and tents, some in just jackets and jeans. I wonder how they even survived that long without warmer wear since it was like 20-40 degrees that night. Despite having 120 units in reserve, I know for sure that there were at least 200-300 people out there. So we left. It was around 6 AM now and both me and Enoch were tired; though in my defense I think I was perhaps more tired having slept at 1 AM and waking up 4 AM (both Boston time). In LA terms, I took a nap between 10 PM and woke up at 1 AM to go trouncing around in freezing weather. At any case, part of me debated asking to go back to the first Target just so that I could get my accessories down, but my weariness got the better of me.

Monday morning, after Karen’s ultrasound (another boy! I told you!), we all ran errands and I peeked into Best Buy and of course there were no Wiis, no accessories, and almost no games; but they did have 3 copies of Zelda left. I debated on picking it up hearing that Zelda was actually sold out at a lot of stores but once again went against my own grain.

The afternoon came and I called my friend Allen in LA to see if he had picked up my Wii from EB Games. He gave me both good and bad news. He got me the system, but no accessories and no Zelda. Wah! So last night, I called around and did manage to secure a copy of Zelda at a local Target. I am still looking for extra Wiimotes and Nunchucks though. I did order 2 Wiimotes from CompUSA.com (which indicated that they had them in stock) and am crossing my fingers that I get them before Christmas. :)

Anyway, now I’m just taking care of small items and tasks while I count down the days until I return to LA (and my Wii)! I am enjoying my time here though and I’ll be making Pumpkin Cheesecakes tomorrow for Thanksgiving dinner. Hmmm.

Off to get the Wii

November 19th, 2006 by flakeboy

It’s around 5 AM Boston time now and I’m about to head out to Target to see if I can get a Wii. I’ll let you all know if I’m successful or not. I may sound super nerdy but I wish I had been in Times Square for the launch. Looked like a lotta nedry Nintendo fun going on PLUS since the store got like 1,000+ more units that were pre-sold, I wouldn’t have had to wait. OK… Time to go now… woohoo!

a guilty pleasure everyone knows about…

November 14th, 2006 by flakeboy

It’s officially 7 days until the Wii… woohoo! It gonna be some cold, cold, hard-nipples-cold weather in Boston!

So how am I spending my time until then? Well, I completed Beyond Good and Evil last night (finally) and it was a fairly enjoyable, albiet short, gaming experience. Too bad they probably won’t be making a sequel even though the ending sets up for one. Well, all in all, I got to scratch one game off my never passed list. With really less than a week left, I am debating on whether to go out and buy Final Fantasy III or Yoshi’s Island 2 tomorrow for the DS. I’m pretty tight on cash until the end of the year but dangit, now is the time to splurge and play!

Today, I got a few items in the mail which made me unusually happy. First I got my pair of hanging shoe holders. Now I will no longer be throwing my shoes in a dark corner in the coat closet. The racks are supposed to hold 20 pairs but I’m guessing these were made for womens’ shoes as a pair of my shoes (and I’m only a size 8.5) seem to bust the shoe sleeves… soooo… what should hold 2 pairs is only going to hold 10 pairs.

The second thing I got was a set of DVDs from Hong Kong with the complete Ally McBeal TV series. So far, the discs have some technical issues and I’m fairly sure they’re bootlegs. Another tell tale was the fact that discs 3 and 4 (of 30) do not have Ally related artwork on them. In fact, Disc 4 has the Season 1 Smallville promo photo on it. Anyway, For a nominal price, I guess it was worth it. I actually thought it was a genuine product (and that products in Asia are just cheaper) but I guess I was wrong. Oh well, I got 30 discs to go through.
